By Terry Wells

New all-weather cycle parking facilities have been officially opened at Langmoor Primary School in Oadby. The cycle parking, for up to 18 bikes and 20 scooters, cost £8,300 and was installed at the school as part of the cycle parking grants scheme. Pupils at the school were able to get involved with the design of the cycle parking, and help to monitor its success. Meanwhile, Children inspired by Great Britain's cycling medals at the Olympics are being encouraged to dust off their saddles and cycle to school for the start of the new term. The Great Britain team won 14 cycling medals in China - including eight gold and the Road Safety and Travel Awareness team have been highlighting this to children across the County as they take part in bicycle safety training. The training provides children with the knowledge and skills to make cycle journeys, such as cycling to school, safer. Dr Kevin Feltham, said: "The number of children cycling to school has shown a steady rise in recent years, but often it takes something like the big success at the Olympics to get people on their bikes. The Bike4Life training has recently been awarded national Bikeability Status by the Cycle Standards Training Board.
